Classes / Curriculum

 

Please Note that all Greek Schools operate 1 year behind the UK equivalent Years for classes from Nursery to Year 6

i.e. If in Year 2 in English School, you will be in Year 1 in Greek School.

 

Nursery - Ages 4 to 5 years

Saturday morning only 9.30 to 1.00

This class incorporates activities to improve children's fine motor skills, including Greek songs, poems, stories and conversation.

 

Reception - Ages 5 to 6 years

Saturday morning only 9.30 to 1.00

This class works on 6 topics, in each topic children learn basic vocabulary and language structures;
1. Myself (Ο εαυτόs μου)
2. Family (Οικογένεια μου)
3. Clothing (Τα ρούχα μου)
4. Home (Το σπίτι μου)
5. Surrounding world, including topics on animals, nature, colours (Ο κόσμοs γύρω μου)
6. Seasons (Ο καιρόs)

 

Years 1 to 6 - Ages 6 to 12 years

Saturday morning 9.30 to 1.00 & Wednesday evening 6.10 to 7.40 (Years 3- 6 only)

We follow the syllabus recommended by the Greek and Cypriot embassies including;
1. Formal reading and writing of Greek language
2. Greek music and dance
3. Knowledge of homeland, including elements of history, religion, geography and Greek culture

 

GCSE - Ages 13 to 14 years (2 year course)

Saturday morning 9.30 to 1.00 & Wednesday evening 6.10 to 7.40

The Edexcel GCSE syllabus is followed. At the end of the course the children are expected to take their GCSE exams.

 

AS Level and A Level - Ages 15 to 17 years (2/3 year course)

Saturday morning 9.30 to 1.00 & Wednesday evening 6.10 to 7.40

AS Level is a Greek language course; A Level comprises Greek language and literature. Again all children are expected to take their exams at the end of the course.
